Even today, most people are faced with the difficulty of reconciling their religious beliefs with modern science. In the 17th Century, when scientific thought was in its infancy and religion was the established source of knowledge about the universe, this conflict was of particular interest to writers and philosophers. Two similar but contrasting viewpoints on this issue can be seen in John Milton's Paradise Lost and Margaret Cavendish's The Blazing World. Under the reign of Elizabeth I, England enjoyed a period of religious toleration. The actual computing system weighed about 10 to 12 pounds total, but the monitor was heavier than the computer itself. In 1986, IBM introduced the first compact computer small enough to be called a laptop, the IBM PC Convertible. It weighed 12 lbs and sold for $3,500. The PC Convertible was a success, and ushered in the laptop era. The major aspects of notebook computers are the same as desktops. They contain processors, operating systems, memory, disk drives, input/output ports, sound cards and speakers. The â€Å"brain† of the notebook is called a â€Å"microprocessor.† It coordinates all of the computer's functions according to programmed instructions. From my understanding a courtroom work group is anyone who works as an employee of the court systems. This includes the bailiff, courtroom recorders, courtroom clerks and translators. During a daily basis the courtroom work group is expected to maintain interaction that serves the court and its many members. The courtroom work group is focused on bringing the case to a fair ending by communicating with each other even though there are different parties hoping for different outcomes. The reason they are able to communicate so well is because even though they support different sides of the case, they are all focused on closing the case quickly. If I was able to make changes to the courtroom work group I would like to change the allotted time each judge spends on a single case. I feel it is important that citizens understand what the judge is telling them and they feel like they are being treated with care not just being rushed through the system. Frank Schmalleger said, â€Å"An attorney whose official duty is to conduct criminal proceedings on behalf of the state or the people against those accused of having committed criminal offences.† (Pg. 315) A prosecutor has too many duties for one person to take on so they hire assistant district  attorneys who take over most of the court work. I believe that a prosecutor takes on a case by determining what the case fundamentals are and then deciding the amount of court work to assign each assistant attorney. The effects of the criminal justice funnel are certain individuals not being allotted the proper amount of time needed for the judge to look in to their case before being sentenced. I feel that the criminal justice funnel is just a way to speed up the amount of time you spend in the court system. Because of the lack of judges and funds our judicial system has, we are forced to be put through a system that is impersonal and processed too quickly. As of right now if every citizen going through the court system received as much time as they felt necessary, we would be in a permanent back log which means that one person could sit in prison awaiting trial for over a year when his case could have taken a substantially shorter amount of time with the criminal justice funnel. When members of the court work group are able to come to an agreement or plea-bargain, they are able to speed up the process and move on to the next case quicker and more effectively. Some solutions to making the criminal justice funnel more successful would be to put more money in to the judicial system so that more judges could be hired and citizens feel that they are provided with a more personalized journey through the court system. If this was applied the amount of backlog would be substantially reduced because there would be more judges to handle cases each day. Ancient world civilizations date back from 3500-500 BC. Some of the early ancient include Egypt, the Roman Empire, the Baghvad Gita, Mesopotamia and Deities of Warriors to mention a few.. Research conducted by scholars indicate that civilizations did not begin in the west as most people believe. As a matter of fact ancient civilization began from the northern desert and the Mediterranean regions. Civilization was not an event but a process. It therefore did not happen spontaneously but took length of time. There are various ancient civilizations as already mentioned which include Egypt, Mesopotamia, Warriors and Deities in the Near East, India’s Beginnings, Ancient China among others. This paper focuses on each one of them analyzing how each was established. The history of ancient Egypt was characterized by fascination. Egypt is actually of the ancient establishments that may be said to have been rich in civilizations. Some of the memorable fascinations that characterize Egypt’s civilization included; the pyramids, the sphinx, Chariots of the Gods, writings wall paintings and a whole lot of works of art. These among others help us understand the style and way of life in ancient Egypt including their way of life. The geographical location of Egypt is north eastern of the African continent. It took slighting above 300 years. Civilization of ancient Egypt was also characterized of control of resources both human and natural. Other activities included irrigation, mining of minerals, trade and military ventures. Mesopotamia is also another ancient civilization whose geographical location is between two rivers known as Tigris and Euphrates. Mesopotamia is actually said to be the first world civilization among all other ancient civilizations. Some major activities that characterized ancient Mesopotamia included construction of levees to control destructive flooding. Irrigation using canals was also very common. History has it that the southern part of Mesopotamia came to be known as Sumer and thus the residents were known as Sumerians. The Sumerians had civilized systems of administration where they organized themselves in city states. Their place of worship was known as Ziggurat and only priests were allowed since it was a sacred place. Every city state had at lease one temple. Other characteristics of ancient Mesopotamia included was an ancient form of writing known as Cuneiform and Stylus which was instrument made from reed which they used to write. Young boys also attended a school known Edubba after which they graduated to scribes. Also classified among the ancient world civilizations is China whose history of establishment dates back to 15th century BC. The major characteristic of this ancient civilization is the writings which looked like turtle shells. However China is known to have experienced political instability. This may have been as a result of the various dynasties that constituted the whole Kingdom. Originally ancient China was made up of city states which later grew to dynasties. China administration was based on dynasties until recently. In the Near East the Major characteristic was warriors and Deities. The warriors were considered stronger active and more hardworking than other people. There were gods who facilitated the success of war. In conclusion every ancient civilization had some features which characterized its establishment. However, as noted all civilizations took quite a process. All civilizations have however changed and most of them are now modern.

My intent in writing this paper is to describe how ethical principles can address organizational issues. The organization that I have chosen to explore is the Boeing Company specifically and the aerospace manufacturing industry as a whole, more generally. I will cover the role that external social pressures play in influencing the industry in both their compliance with government and professional ethics. I will also endeavor to highlight how the pressures brought to bear on the industry by the public and the government is relevant to their decisions both corporately and individually by their employees. Finally, I will share my thoughts on the relationship between legal and ethical issues with regard to the industry. To begin then, let’s explore what role external social pressures have in influencing the Boeing Company and by extension, the aerospace industry’s organizational ethics. The level of trust that must be present by the public in the company that builds the airplane they fly in is best described in the words of the Boeing employee code of conduct â€Å"†¦must not engage in conduct or activity that may raise questions as to the company’s honesty, impartiality, or reputation or otherwise cause embarrassment to the company.† (Boeing, 2014) Boeing and the entire aerospace industry are hyper aware of their image and the perceptions of the flying public. When social pressure is brought to bear the entire industry takes notice and works to renew and enhance the public’s trust. For example, last year Boeing experienced a public relations nightmare when their new 787 Dreamliner aircraft experienced problems with Lithium Ion Batteries. An aircraft caught fire while waiting to be refueled and prepared for its next use. When news of the incident became known it was received with widespread fear and seeded mistrust of the airframe in the pu blic, in the airline customer and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The entire 787 worldwide fleet was grounded until resolution could be  made to ensure public and aircraft safety. The speed with which Boeing and the FAA dealt with the problem shows beyond any doubt that social pressure influences Boeing and the entire aerospace industry. Aerospace companies are constantly working to keep and enhance the trust of the public and to remain in compliance with the strictest government standards. The Core Values of the Boeing Company are Integrity, Quality, Safety, Diversity and Inclusion, Trust and Respect, Corporate Citizenship and finally Stakeholder Success. (Boeing, 2014) It is interesting to me that stakeholder success is the last item on the list. Boeing sees their public owners as being lowest on their corporate priority list with regard to ethics. In other words they see the need to be ethical as higher than being profitable. The need to be perceived in the public arena as ethical and trustworthy while also remaining in compliance with very lofty government standards demonstrates how Boeing and the aerospace industry strive to perform at a level which helps to mitigate the need for public or social pressure to influence their decisions. The issues the aerospace industry routinely deals with remain relevant and continually influence the decisions made and direct the way the companies involved expect their employee’s personal decisions to be made. Everything Boeing and its employees do have the potential to impact the public trust. In a broader sense the organizational ethics of the aerospace industry are determined by multiple factors. As already mentioned the flying public’s trust is a major factor but added to that are the airlines which operate the aircraft, the government agencies who retain oversight on the industry as a whole and the corporate citizens who build the aircraft. A great deal of effort goes into ensuring each of these levels of influence are balanced and mesh as seamlessly as possible with the core values mentioned above. As I have discovered, the aerospace industry is heavily influenced by many government agencies. Through regulation and legislation these agencies impact the aerospace industry’s relationship with both the public and its stakeholders. The relationship which exists between these entities creates in many instances a legally mandated set of codes which govern the way the aerospace industry conducts business. In the United States the FAA has the ability and, arguably, the responsibility to mandate that certain rules and standards are met in the construction and operation of airplanes. Whether the airplanes are used to transport the flying public  or are designated experimental and only flown under strictly controlled circumstances makes no difference. The ability of a government agency to enforce rules or a code at a level as invasive as exists in the entire aerospace industry creates a question of whether the ethics embraced by the aerospace industry would be at the level they currently enjoy if the amount of regulation was not the same. In a more direct fashion the question then begs itself; given the influences of the public, the airline operators, and the government agencies with oversight, is the aerospace industry as a whole independently ethically responsible or are they forced to be so? When I attempted to determine if there is a clear definition of what ethically responsible means I fell short. The definition is subjective at best and invariably indistinct. I can therefore only use my personal definition to gage what I can research and see for myself to make a determination much as you the reader must do. As I stated my intent in writing this paper was to describe how ethical principles can address organizational issues. Strictly speaking, I may have drifted afield of a clear presentation of that description. BACKGROUND: It has been suggested by previous research findings that maternal blood-lead levels as an environmental factor is an apparent predictor of low birth weight; another possible explanatory factor of low birth weight relates to the maternal age of the mother. This study aimed to explore relationships between maternal blood lead levels, and maternal age (at first childbirth) with any observed differences in birth weight as a pregnancy outcome. METHODS: Life style information, maternal blood lead levels measured by micrograms per decilitre ( µg/dl), age of mother (years) and infant birth weight (grams) was collected from 250 consecutive (first-time) mother-infant pairs from hospital delivery departments in four Brisbane hospitals. Pregnancy outcomes (weight) were verified by consulting medical records. Lead was determined by electro thermal atomic absorption spectrometry (Whole Blood). Birth weight was recoded into three classes: Low birth weight (2500g); Lower end of normal (2500-3000g) and Normal (3000g). Provide a statement of the statistical test(s) that will be appropriate to test the hypotheses; To test the hypothesis that â€Å"There are no significant differences in the means of the maternal lead levels when the infants are grouped according to birthweight†, the best statistical treatment to use is one way Analysis of Variance ANOVA at a 0. 05 level of significance. When the computed p-value, which for this study is 0. 014 is less than the level of significance, which is 0. 05, there is significant difference in at least one pair of means. To evaluate, which of the means differed, a post-hoc analysis is conducted. Since there are only three groups, the conservative Bonferroni multiple comparisons test is applied. P-values from the post hoc analysis indicate which of the pairs of mean differed. To determine which of the two means that differed is actually higher, either the descriptives which shows the means of the groups or the mean difference in post-hoc analysis results may be used. To test the hypothesis that â€Å"There is no significant association between maternal age at first childbirth and the birthweight of infants† correlation analysis is employed at a 0. 01 level of significance. Provide a list of assumptions that will need to be met to apply the test(s) validly; To validly apply ANOVA, the following assumptions must be satisfied : the distribution of the data to be analysed should be normal and there should be homogeneity of variance. Normality may be simply checked using Q-Q plots or with statistical tests like Kolmogorov-Smirnov or Shapiro Wilk. Homogeneity of variance is verified using Levene’s test (Becker, 1999). In a correlation analysis, relationship between the independent and dependent variables are supposed to be concurrent, or in other words, both variables are in the same time frame (Jensen, 2005). 7. Provide a statement of the levels of significance, that you will use to test each hypothesis; The hypothesis that â€Å"There are no significant differences in the means of the maternal lead levels when the infants are grouped according to birthweight† was tested at a level of significance (? ) of 0. 05. The hypothesis that â€Å"There is no significant association between maternal age at first childbirth and the birthweight of infants† was tested at a level of significance (? ) of 0. 01. 8. Finally, provide a sentence or two that you would present to the researchers to explain the results at both a descriptive (univariate) and inference (bivariate) level. Results of a one-way Analysis of Variance revealed a significant difference in the maternal lead levels among the three groups of infants grouped according to birth weight, with an F-value of 4. 350 and a p-value of 0. 014. Post hoc analysis via Bonferroni multiple comparisons test suggested that the mean of maternal lead levels of the group of infants with normal birthweight (4. 4052  ± 2. 37333) are significantly higher (p=0. 011) than the mean of maternal lead levels of the group of infants at the lower end of the normal birthweight (3. 4214  ± 1. 55170). No significant differences were noted on the other pairs of means. On the other hand, a correlation analysis performed at 0. 01 level of significance implied significant slight correlation (Pearson r = 0. 18, p-value=0. 004) between maternal age at first childbirth (32. 11  ± 5. 274) and birthweight of infants (3204. 47  ±620. 986).
